Match Preview Manchester City vs Liverpool: All Eyes on Sterling and Milner

Liverpool are looking for their first league win at the Etihad Stadium since 2008while, Manchester City will hope to keep themselves top of the table.

If you believe the television adverts for this game, it’s all about Raheem Sterling facing Liverpool for the first time since he left the Reds, and James Milner’s return to the club where he won twoPremier League titles. Sterling who has already established himself as a starter has scored six goals in all competition whereas Milner has had a mixed-bag performance throughout the season.

Both sides have had their fair share of injuries and will look to welcome back their best marksmen in Sergio Aguero and Daniel Sturridge respectively.Sergio Aguero and Daniel Sturridge obviously raise the level of talent of their respective clubs and the availability of both continues to be closely followed heading into Saturday’s high-profile clash at the Etihad Stadium between the Premier League front-runners and the Reds as they continue to establish their identity under Jurgen Klopp.

Aguero has missed seven games across all competitions since getting injured. The Citizens though, have gone 5-2-0 in that span while fending off Arsenal to top the table on goal differential.

It may be an ideal time for the Argentina international to return, given City went into the international break on a stark scoreless draw at Aston Villa on Nov. 8. Manchester City did not allow the hosts a shot on goal but had only three themselves as they were held off the scoresheet for only the second time in 18 matches across all competitions.

Liverpool are 10th in the table on 17 points, trailing city rivals Everton on goal difference as they continue their transition to Klopp’s “gegenpressing” style of high pressing to regain possession and forcing the opponent to move backwards and commit mistakes. The Reds are 3-3-1 overall under the German, who has had nearly two weeks to rue his first defeat while in charge at Anfield – a 2-1 home setback to Crystal Palace on Nov. 8 in which they conceded a late winner but would be motivated by the fact that the last time these two sides locked horns, Liverpool emerged victorious 2-1 at home when Coutinho and Henderson dented City’s title hope.
