Jurgen Klopp is looking forward for a reunion with one of the brightest prodigies of German football – Mario Gotze. This move from the German giants could prove to be beneficial to all parties involved.
Gotze’s Journey
This charismatic midfielder is acclaimed to one of the finest talents of the millennium.
At the young age of 23, Gotze already has four titles under his belt. He made his Bundesliga debut with Borussia Dortmund in 2009 and was at the center of the young and dynamic side managed by Klopp. His personal growth was in tandem with the upward trajectory of the devilish Dortmund side and he emerged as a prominent figure in the German side’s success over the years. Within no time, he received a national calling and made his international debut in 2010.
By 2013 Gotze was already a phenomenon in German football and the next obvious step was a transfer to Bayern Munich. Pep Guardiola had clearly mentioned that he wanted Gotze at Bayern at any cost. But, this move did not completely turn as expected for the midfielder and he was struggling to find a place in the starting 11. There was a dip in his form and he couldn’t show his class alongside Muller, Robben and Ribery.
The Possibilities
The world cup winner’s contract with Bayern expires in 2017 and till date there have been no talks of a renewal. According to the reports, Liverpool are ready to spend huge for the German superstar this summer. When Gotze was asked about the possibilities of a reunion with his former manager he said, “I’m under contract here until 2017. We will see what happens. No-one has contacted me yet.” There was no direct denial from the player.
The Similarities
Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund rely a lot on the quick counter attacks and have similar strategies. After the advent of Klopp, his mission at Liverpool is to transform the side into a young fearless force and a serious contender for the title. He had a similar challenge at Dortmund and we all know that the manager did wonders there.
Mario Gotze can prove to be the missing piece in the puzzle for Klopp due to his attacking flair and his intelligent game. Currently, Liverpool are struggling without a powerful playmaker who can demonstrate brilliance. Gotze can be the man and can certainly turn the tables at Merseyside and bring back the glory at Anfield.
