Transfer season is here and football fans around the world are looking forward to see which player goes where. Liverpool fans are eager to see what Jurgen Klopp will do during his first summer transfer window. Liverpool are linked with a lot of players and also few names are expected to leave Anfield this Summer.

It is certain that Liverpool will buy one or two Central Midfielders. But with Marko Grujic and another Central Midfielder coming, someone from the current Liverpool squad has to make way. Joe Allen is one such Liverpool Central Midfielder whose future at the club is uncertain due to the new signings. Even though Joe Allen has been in fine form recently, it is expected that he will be sold this summer. Let’s look at three potential destinations for Joe Allen if he is to be sold by Liverpool :

1. Celtic FC:

Joe Allen was often called as Brendan Rodgers’ ‘Love Child’ during the Irishman’s days at Liverpool. It was Brendan Rodgers’ who brought Joe Allen to Liverpool and described him as ‘the Welsh Xavi’  . The two had worked together at Swansea and Liverpool. Brendan Rodgers was appointed as the new Celtic coach last week. Rodgers will be looking to strengthen the squad and bringing in Allen is a possibility.  The Scottish League may be a step down for the Welsh midfielder, but it has to be noted that Celtic has Champions League football to play. Joe Allen could become a leader there under his former coach.

2. Stoke City:

Stoke City showed that they were ambitious with the signing of Gianelli Imbula from Porto during the January transfer window. They also showed their ambition during the last transfer window with the signing of Xherdan Shaqiri. Stoke will be looking to strengthen their squad further during this transfer window. And one of the positions they definitely should strengthen is their Central Midfield. Even though Imbula is a top class Central Midfielder, other Midfielders in the squad like Charlie Adam and Glen Whelan are not up to the level. Joe Allen would be a great and cheap buy for Stoke in that case. The Welshman’s passing skills and technique can add to Bojan Krkic’s creativity. Allen can also help Imbula in his defensive duties.

3. Swansea City:

A return to his childhood club is always on the cards for Joe Allen. Joe Allen started his career with Swansea and it might be time for him to return there. Swansea is another team whose Central Midfield is not quite good enough and Allen might be the perfect solution for their Midfield vows. Joe Allen will be a big upgrade on current Swansea Midfielders – Ki Sung Yong, Leroy Fer, and Leon Britton.

It is almost certain that the Welshman will leave Liverpool this summer. Joe Allen was considered as a flop by most of the Liverpool fans, but he was able to change the minds of many since the arrival of Jurgen Klopp. He was a good squad player and also his pressing was effective. A move to a smaller club might help Allen’s career. He will be able to be a Midfielder general at a new club.
