Why Liverpool Should Sign This Championship Winger Instead Of The Senegalese Star

It seems like Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has assigned a mission; a mission to take the Merseyside club to the Paramount. Jurgen Klopp took the same side to two cup finals, that failed badly under the management of Brendan Rodgers.

The sense of optimism can be clearly seen in Liverpool’s players and they look all set to kick off the new season. The German took his time (not too much) to understand the league and then began his experiments with the squad. He tried many possible lineups and finally came out with the best one with the best players fitting in it.

We are pretty sure that the fans are eager to see their team performing like they did earlier in the Europa League ties. Some breathtaking scenes were witnessed at Anfield and the passion and the desire in the players’ vein was the only reason, they did this.

Now, with the transfer window approaching, many new names are expected to be welcomed at Anfield. The German gaffer already concluded three signings and it looks like he is hungry for more. Now, it was earlier reported that the Merseyside club are looking to bring Sadio Mane, but besides that, a new rumour has appeared and it states that Jurgen Kloop is all set to sign the 24-year-old Newcastle United’s midfielder Andros Townsend.

Now, as we all are aware of the fact that Liverpool is studded with some quality names in the midfield and therefore, signing both the aforementioned targets will make no sense, so here we will compare both the players and will try to figure it out that who will be the perfect signing for Liverpool.

Townsend, had a rough season with Tottenham Hotspur and his playing time was cut short due to the excellent performances by Lamela and Eriksen, and eventually he was sold to Newcastle United and the his performance at the St. James’ park was worth watching.

He signed for the Magpies in January and made 13 appearances in the Premier League, scoring 4 goals and assisting 2. Mane, on the other hand, had a terrific season with the Saints and he played every single game in the Premier League but one.

In his 37 appearances for the side, he scored 11 goals and bagged six assists. Mane was usually used as a second striker or as an attacking midfielder, while Townsend was deployed as a winger.

Talking particularly about Mane, he helped his side to qualify for the Europa League and as we know that Liverpool won’t be participating in the European competition, it will be a tough task to convince him. Townsend, on the other hand, can easily be tempted as Newcastle will be plying their trade in the Championship.

Mane’s arrival would endanger a spot for any one of Liverpool’s current players. As stated above, he is usually deployed as an attacking midfielder or as a winger. That means either Firmino or Lallana will have to give away their spot and besides that, Mane would only arrive if the club would guarantee him a first team squad.

Coutinho, Lallana and Firmino are on the verge of something big. The trio could do wonders under Klopp, but a disturbance might affect the squad. Townsend, on the other hand, could be used more often as a substitute.

There is no doubt that Mane’s performances have been brilliant, but we cannot overlook the work rate of Townsend. Mane is a direct poacher, while Townsend is a typical English player. Mane is surely a tempting personality, but we honestly feel that Liverpool should go for Townsend.
