Lucas Alario

Liverpool is just one club who is trying to sign one of the most talented players to come out from the Argentine league football system. Lucas Alario plays for River Plate and has been amongst the goals for his club. The 23-year-old plays mostly as a striker and recently was called up for the senior Argentine side.

The Reds had a bid reportedly rejected by the Argentine club as Alario has a release clause of £15.2 million and are holding out for the same. Alario also stated that he would like to move to Europe to continue his journey. He was quoted by the Independent as saying:

“Like every player, I dream to play in Europe at some point in my career”, he said.

“For that, first I have to make things right at River, to keep growing and learning.”

So who is he and why are Liverpool after his signature? Let’s find out.

A great finisher in front of goal

Alario was born in Tosado, Sante Fe and started his footballing career with Colon in his native region. His first goal for the club came in 2014 in the game against Tigre, Alario, in fact, scored the only goal of the game in that tie.

He was not the most prolific striker in the club but moved to River Plate at the start of the 2015-16 season. The striker has been in pretty good form for his new side and has scored 19 goals in just 17 games.

Alario even took his side to the final of the FIFA Club World Cup but lost out to Barcelona in the final. While he hasn’t been in the radar of many top clubs, he certainly has proven his worth to his clubs. Alario has this knack of scoring important goals and his movement and position are two of his biggest strengths.

He is extremely composed in front of goal, though you won’t see many goals coming in from the outside of the box. The Argentine is also known to keep his teammates in the game and often provides through balls and sets up goals.

The striker does have a few issues though; Alario isn’t the most physical striker and can be brushed off the ball easily. He would have to work hard and bulk up his physique, similar to what Sergio Aguero has done to survive and thrive in the Premier League.

Alario would be a smart surging for the Reds. They do not have a poacher in the side, even though Daniel Sturridge is the best finisher for the Merseyside club. At around £15 million, the 23-year-old would be a steal for the side and might remind a lot of people about Lucas Barrios, when he was starring for Borussia Dortmund.
