Liverpool Receive Injury Boost Ahead Of Swansea Clash Leaving Klopp With Selection Headaches

Dejan Lovren will make his return against Swansea City on Saturday. The Croatian centre-back missed out of the Hull game due to injury, but his absence wasn’t felt much as Liverpool thrashed the Tigers at home 5-1. In Lovren’s absence, Ragnar Klavan partnered Joel Matip at the back.

However, Lovren has now recovered from a viral infection and will be back in full training at Melwood as the Reds get their preparations underway for Saturday’s clash with the Swans.

Loris Karius is also expected to keep his spot against Swansea after he did relatively well on his Premier League debut at home.

Klopp has certain team selection dilemmas, but all of them are positive as Liverpool are performing fantastically this season. Daniel Sturridge was forced to be content with a cameo role against Hull as Liverpool scored 4 goals with him off the pitch. Whether Sturridge will return to the starting 11 against Swansea remains to be seen, but Klopp has no reason to change the winning eleven from last weekend.

Liverpool have played six league games so far, but Dejan Lovren, Klopp’s first choice center-back has missed two of them – both home games. Earlier this month, he missed the home opener against Leicester City.

Matip and Lovren are expected to be Klopp’s first choice centre-back partnership. They now need a run of games to build on this partnership at the back as Liverpool need to tighten the defensive screws. Too often, the Reds have been hurt with defensive failings. While outscoring the opposition remains an attractive option this season, there will arise times when Liverpool have to rely on the defence to knick them the result, and the duo needs to perform to the best of their abilities for that to happen. It has been a while since Liverpool had a strong, able partnership at the back, and in the few games Matip and Lovren have played together, they have looked the part. Klopp will want to give the duo a run of games so that they can build this partnership and get Liverpool the defensive surety they desperately need.
