Adam Lallana

Liverpool’s hard-fought victory over Swansea City in the Premier League seems to have come at a cost. Dejan Lovren and Adam Lallana reportedly picked up groin injuries during the game. In fact, the English midfielder had to be substituted in the first half with Daniel Sturridge.

The Reds were slow to click into gear at The Liberty Stadium and it took a late penalty from James Milner to seal the victory. While Liverpool kept the winning run going, the injury to Lallana is certainly a worry for Klopp.

“Dejan was one of the last moments of the game. [It is a] groin [injury] for both, hopefully not that serious,” Klopp was quoted by FourFourTwo.

“Adam felt it, tried it again and it didn’t work. In this moment they have no chance for the national teams.

“But hopefully 16 days should be enough to bring them back onto the pitch for the next game.

“Things like this happen – there was no sign of it in the week. The pitch was a little bit wet, of course, so things like this can happen. It’s not too nice, but nothing else.”

A big win at a big price

This was Liverpool’s fourth consecutive win in the Premier League and it did come at a price. Adam Lallana has been one of the brightest players for the team this season and his exclusion from the side will hurt them, should he be out for longer.

Fortunately for the Reds, the international break takes place after this match day and that would mean more rest time for the duo. Klopp already alluded that both Lovren and Lallana would miss their respective World Cup qualifiers and that would actually mean good news for the side.

Important to keep the same XI going on

While having a large squad is good for such issues cropping up throughout the season, it is imperative that the Reds play with the same XI for as long as possible. The midfield trio have been excellent with Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana.

The centre-back pairing might have looked shaky today but Lovren and Joel Matip are Liverpool’s best option in the heart of the defence. Klopp would hope that neither plays for their international teams and would want to keep them at Anfield over the next two weeks.

Liverpool needed late heroics from Roberto Firmino and James Milner to pick up all the three points. They had conceded first as Leroy Fer punished some horrible defending in the first half. But the Reds gathered themselves and had a real go at Swansea in the second half of the match.

Jurgen Klopp probably would have had a go at his team in the half-time show and that probably changed the game.

The Reds next face Manchester United after the international break and the manager would be hoping for a fit side. Hopefully, Lovren and Lallana will take part in that game.
