Liverpool are keen to add to their attacking options in the January transfer window as Senegalese star Sadio Mane would be leaving for the African Cup of Nations. The Reds did have the best attack in the Premier League prior to the 12th round of games and one of their targets for the winter window is Quincy Promes of Spartak Moscow.

The Liverpool Echo reports that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has kept an eye on the Dutch winger since August and is willing to bid for the £25 million-rated star. Promes moved to the Russian Premier League side from FC Twente in the 2014-15 season and he has found the back of the net on a regular basis.

In 71 games for Spartak Moscow, the 24-year-old has scored 36 games, which is not bad for a winger. He does seem to be in the same kind of mould as Sadio Mane. Promes is known for his dribbling and passing ability but he isn’t the most physical player out there and doesn’t really track back a lot.

Jurgen Klopp also has to deal with the loss of Danny Ings for the rest of the season. The English striker was expected to make a return to the first team but another knee injury has effectively ended his campaign.

Reds need quality in attack for rest of the campaign

Liverpool might have one of the brightest attacks in the Premier League but they will need quality cover for the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane. Both players were a little off colour in the game against Southampton and Klopp would want to avoid frustrating days like the one at St Mary’s.

Promes, in his 11 Russian Premier League games this season, already has five goals and five assists to his name. Promes isn’t the only attacker being linked with a move to Anfield as Sardar Azmoun, the striker from FC Rostov, who also plays in Russia is also a reported target. The Dutch attacker is versatile enough to play across the line and can even claim a place in midfield, which does make him an attractive proposition for the Reds.

Liverpool played a 0-0 draw in their last game against Southampton as they could not break a resilient defence down. They did bring on Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi but that cutting edge in their wing play was missing and Promes does have a chance of doing that if Klopp signs him up.
