Jurgen Klopp has consistently stated that he wants to sign attackers in the January transfer window and one star who has caught his eye is USA international, Christian Pulisic. The 18-year-old has been one of the best players in the Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund and it is expected that Liverpool will make a serious offer for him in the winter window.

The Dortmund star has played 10 Bundesliga games for Thomas Tuchel’s side and has scored twice with four assists to his name. The 18-year-old has also played a year in England before he signed moved away and there are high expectations of the American.

There is a problem as Borussia Dortmund do not want to sell him off and their sporting director Michael Zorc recently spoke to the Bild and claimed Liverpool should not try to sign the talented player.

“We have communicated very clearly that we won’t sell Christian and that he’s very much part of our plans.

“Liverpool don’t need to waste their time.”

Dortmund might not be flying high in the Bundesliga at the moment but they have a real chance of winning the league as Bayern Munich do not look invincible under Carlo Ancelotti. The Bavarian giants could be overhauled should Dortmund start getting a chain of results going and Pulisic would be an important cog in their plans to break the dominance of the Red and whites.

Liverpool need to add quality in attack

The Reds have had a number of injuries to keep tabs on this season. Even without any European games, some of their top stars are out with injuries, Daniel Sturridge, being the prime example as he has spent more time on the treatment table than on the pitch.

Philippe Coutinho has also picked up an injury which will keep him out till the New Year at least and Klopp would want to bring someone in as cover for the mercurial Brazilian. Sadio Mane is also set to leave in January to team up with Senegal for the African Cup of Nations and that will leave the Reds without many top attacking options.

Pulisic can play in a range of positions and could be used wide, as a replacement for Coutinho or even Mane. The 18-year-old is versatile enough to play in the heart of midfield as well but his best abilities are in attack.

Signing Pulisic would mean that Klopp continues his policy of bringing youngsters into the team and blooding them. The American would also ensure that Roberto Firmino does not have to play out wide, which should let him star as the centre forward for the side.

Liverpool do need to add attacking players in the side and it will be interesting to see just how much Klopp is prepared to pay for a player that he clearly wants. The German had paid an astounding £34 million to sign Sadio Mane and make him the most expensive African footballer ever, maybe something similar could take place with Pulisic.
