With Sadio Mane having left Liverpool to play in the African Cup of Nations, the Reds have been looking all across Europe for a quality replacement. The Merseyside club have been linked with a number of players and another one joins the list, Jese Rodriguez of Paris Saint-Germain.

The former Real Madrid man had just joined PSG in the summer for a fee of £20 million but hasn’t been able to break into the first team. The 23-year-old certainly has the attacking ability and talent to perform but for some reason, it just has not worked out for him in Paris.

Even manager Unai Emery stated that Rodriguez does need to leave to get a lot of playing time and that could work out in the favour of the Reds.

“Jese needs to play to rediscover his rhythm and confidence,” Emery said to the reporters at Camp des Loges. “Here, he is not getting opportunities to play regularly. Leaving the team to get back to his best and increase his playing time is clearly an option.”

Liverpool could be the team that brings the Spaniard to England and under Jurgen Klopp; Rodriguez could find his ability once again.

The Spaniard has only scored two goals this season and has made just a couple of starts for the French champions. His downward spiral in form is accentuated by the plethora of talent at the French club. Lucas Moura, Angel di Maria and now Julian Draxler all ply their trade there and it isn’t easy for any player to break into such a team.

Jese would have expected to play more games as the central striker but that too has not taken place despite Zlatan Ibrahimovic leaving the side in the summer to join Manchester United.

Liverpool, though, needs to act quick and decisively if they are to make a fist of their position in the Premier League. The Reds are second in the league table and have to continue their form until the end of the season if they are to finish fourth or higher.

There is a real chance of them winning the Premier League but they cannot let this lead slip away. The side might be needing a bit of grit and determination in the side and even if Jese does play as a forward he isn’t someone who shirks his defensive responsibilities.

With Daniel Sturridge, Philippe Coutinho and even Adam Lallana picking up injuries through the first half of the season, Jese could be a great option for the Reds to have on their bench at least.
