lucas-liverpool-2015Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has been linked with a move away from Anfield for a number of weeks now and it seems the deal to Inter Milan will finally be concluded. The former Gremio man has surprisingly played a few games in the past few weeks but the Telegraph’s Jason Burt has revealed that the Serie A side have made an offer for the Brazilian.

Speaking to BBC 5 Live after the Reds were handed a 1-0 loss by Southampton, Burt also added that Lucas actually wants to stay at Anfield until the end of the season.

“I don’t think he will stay at Liverpool in the January transfer window,” Burt said. “If he does leave, he will go to Inter Milan.

“It seems like he wants to stay and see out the rest of the season. But there is an offer on the table from Inter, and that could be make up his mind.”

Lucas even played in the loss at the hands of Southampton and the Brazilian has been searching for regular football this season. Jordan Henderson and the likes of Emre Can, Georginio Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana have all kept the 30-year-old Brazilian out of the side.

The deal could be a loan one with an option to make it a permanent move. While Lucas only has six months left on his current deal, Liverpool would be looking to make some money now rather than lose him on a free at the end of this season.

The longest serving Liverpool player

It certainly is a quick end to his career at Liverpool as many suggest that staying till the end of the season would have seen him get his customary testimonial after completing 10 years at the club. That doesn’t seem to be on the cards at the moment for Liverpool’s longest-serving current player.

Lucas might have played 15 games this season but only three starts took place in the Premier League and he has mostly played in the heart of defence, which is not his preferred or most comfortable position.

Inter have been searching for a player who can give them stability in the midfield and Lucas could be that player. Going out on loan would make it a win-win situation for both sides and if the Reds can insert a “buy clause” for the end of the season, the San Siro would be the home for Lucas permanently.
