Lucas Leiva has been linked with a move away from Anfield with Inter Milan making a move for the 30-year-old Brazilian. However, the former Gremio man seems to be content fighting it out at Liverpool and wants to win a few trophies with the club.

The Brazilian has completed 10 years at the club and is the longest serving player at the moment but under Jurgen Klopp, he has become a squad player. The midfielder has actually been played in defence in most of the games and has only made three league starts this season.

Lucas was quoted by Sky Sports about his current situation as he isn’t getting regular football with the Reds but hasn’t been allowed to leave in the last few months either. It still is unclear where his future lies but the Brazilian wasn’t stating that he was close to retiring anytime soon.

“The situation is not great. It is not something I want for my future, to have not many games.

“I don’t want this for my career, especially at my age. I’m not close to retiring and have many years ahead of me.

“You want to play – we get paid to play – but I just try to be professional and help as much as I can and when I have the chance do my best.

“At this moment, I have to deal with this and try to find a solution when I have the chance. I have to be professional, think about the team and see what is going to happen.”

Even though the midfielder hasn’t made a lot of starts and is playing essentially in an unfamiliar position in defence, Lucas is adamant that Liverpool is the best place for him as he looks to win a trophy or two with the club.

“The best place for me to be now is Liverpool. I cannot say (where) in one week’s time, one month’s time or four months’ time. I have to judge when something comes up if it is better.

“It has been a special season already and we have a chance to win trophies and that is something I consider as well.”

With Liverpool playing Manchester United on Sunday Lucas also added that the team spirit in the side is best he has ever seen and hopefully the Reds can win the battle at Old Trafford.

The Reds aren’t in the best of forms while Manchester United have been incredible of late. The game will be a tough one but Lucas could still make an appearance late in the game for one final chance of celebrating a win at the home of the enemy.
