Mamadou Sakho

Liverpool’s Mamadou Sakho has been caught in a number of rumours and has been linked with a number of clubs in the winter window. The former PSG man hasn’t played for the Merseyside club this season and Jurgen Klopp had already stated that the Frenchman would leave the club should the right deal come.

According to reports from Le10 Sport this week, Sakho has two concrete offers to look at. One is an older bit of news which had stated that Southampton wanted the defender on loan at the club while the newer link suggests that Spartak Moscow wants to sign the Frenchman from the Reds.

There is a catch to it all, the Reds reportedly want close to £20m for Sakho and that is a ludicrous price for a player that has not played for a good 10 months or so at the top level. Sakho was first suspended by UEFA but was cleared later on, something that hampered his season last time around.

This season, he has fallen out of favour of Jurgen Klopp after a few issues in pre-season and has not turned out for the club at all for any senior games.

Spartak Moscow though, seems to be putting up a better offer to the Reds and could even come up with a permanent solution to take Sakho out of the hands of Liverpool. But it is being reported that Sakho wants to remain in the Premier League and prove his ability.

Southampton taking him on loan would certainly help the EFL Cup finalists as Claude Puel not only lost Jose Fonte to West Ham in this current window, their star defender Virgil van Dijk was another player who was injured before the game against the Reds.

Whichever club Sakho does choose, it seems he has to get the deal complete before the end of this window as playing a few games from now until June could help him make another permanent switch. It could also be that Spartak wants to sign Sakho on loan and the defender needs time to impress his new bosses.

Southampton have a French speaking manager and it would be no real surprise if Sakho does join the Saints. The former PSG star was probably the best defender the Reds had for central defence but him not playing at all for the club has certainly hurt the performances at the back but hopefully, Sakho can find a new club fast and get his career back on track.
