Liverpool look set to sign one of their long-term targets before the end of the transfer window as the Daily Star reports that Mahmoud Dahoud could sign for the Reds soon.

The German midfielder has been one of the players that Jurgen Klopp has earmarked for his new look Liverpool side. The Merseyside club have been frustrated with the current winter window and even after Klopp had stated that they would be signing players, not one player has joined the Premier League club.

The Sunday Express claims that Dahoud has now rejected a new deal with Borussia Monchengladbach and this is a signal for Liverpool to swoop in for a quick deal before the transfer window ends.

The Reds could sign the talented midfielder for a sum as low as £10m (via Sunday Express), which does seem to be a little low considering the fact that there are a number of teams looking to sign him up in the summer.

The likes of Barcelona, AC Milan and Juventus have all been linked with the talented midfielder and it would not be a surprise if the Bundesliga side wait for the other clubs to make a bid before they decide what to do with their star player.

Monchengladbach had stated earlier in the transfer window that Dahoud is not for sale and it does seem unlikely that they will let go of their star for such a cut-price deal. Dahoud does have a contract until the end of the 2018 season and that could work in the favour of the German club.

The 21-year-old could wait till the summer before making his decision and even though Klopp knows the Bundesliga well, it is not a guarantee that the player will sign with the Merseyside club. Liverpool will find it hard to compete with the likes of Barcelona and Juventus and they could also miss out on Champions League football, which would be a blow to their hopes of signing players.

The Reds have lost three games in a row at home, the first time such an event has happened since Brendan Rodgers was first in charge and Klopp has not had to deal with such a situation since his time at Mainz.

If the Reds are to attract the best talent in the world, they will have to play in the Champions League and the first step to getting on the track would be to defeat Chelsea. The game will not be easy but if the Merseyside club plays in the same way they started the season, they could end the season in the top four.
