nachoLiverpool have had an issue with their centre-backs of late and it seems they are ready to raid Spain for a quality defender. While the Merseyside club have the likes of Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip as first choices, they still need quality cover for the pair and Nacho from Real Madrid is the target for Jurgen Klopp.

Le10Sport claims that the Premier League giants are willing to move for the 27-year-old defender who can play across the backline and are willing to stump out £16.9m for the Spanish star.

It hasn’t been easy for the defender to get regular playing time with the likes of Sergio Ramos and Pepe being first team choices but injuries have given a number of chances for Nacho to showcase his talent.

The defender has made 17 appearances for the La Liga giants this term and has even scored a goal and provided and assist. Nacho would be looking for more regular football as he hopes to play regularly for the Spanish side and a move away from Real could be the ticket to more game time.

The 27-year-old is known for his passing ability, even as a defender and is known for his ability to read the game extremely well.

His ability to play as a left-back or a right-back is also something that should not be looked over. Liverpool have had issues with their defence and the fact that Nacho can play on either side should solve a lot of the problems for the Reds.

Will Real sell their defender?

It does seem weird that all of a sudden the Reds have been linked with a player that is getting decent playing time at the Champions League winners. Nacho might not be playing every game but moving from Real to Liverpool is a step-down and unless the Reds pay a crazy amount of money as wages to the Spaniard, we don’t see the move taking place.

Jurgen Klopp has often been linked with players from the Bundesliga and hasn’t been strongly in the hunt for a defender. The Reds do need quality at the back but most of the talk has been about their midfield and attack.

Klopp could be waiting till the end of the season before deciding on moving for another defender as Joe Gomez still recovers from his long-term injury and tries to get back to match fitness.

Gomez could be the reason why the German isn’t interested in defenders but even if the Englishman doesn’t impress till the end of the season, it is hard seeing Nacho in a red jersey next season.
