Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed his admiration for Ajax striker Kasper Dolberg. The Danish sensation has scored 13 goals for Ajax so far this season and it has caught Klopp’s attention. Talking to Danish Newspaper Ekstra Bladet, Klopp said that Dolberg is a fantastic player and that has a great future ahead. He said (via Liverpool Echo):

“Who doesn’t know Dolberg? You can’t play at Ajax without being noticed. He has a great future ahead. He is a fantastic player. I love Danish footballers. I had Leon Andreasen at Mainz. He was a monster. I also have warm memories of Bo Svensson and Mohamed Zidan, who has a Danish wife. Danes have a good attitude and a strong mentality.”

Liverpool bound? Dolberg has been brilliant for Ajax in his debut campaign.

Klopp also revealed that he came close to signing Christian Eriksen during his time at Borussia Dortmund and said that he had a choice between Eriksen, Mkhitaryan and De Bruyne to sign one of them for the German club back then. However, it was Mkhitaryan who was signed in 2013.

“When I was in Dortmund we were very interested in Eriksen, but we had to choose between him Mkhitaryan and (Kevin) De Bruyne. Christian Eriksen is a great player. Everyone would love to have him on their team. At that time we had three players we went after – Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Kevin de Bruyne and Christian Eriksen. We scouted all three very intensely, but we knew we could only get one. We were happy to get Mkhitaryan. Since then Christian Eriksen has taken a great step at Tottenham. He’s very strong,” he added.

Jurgen Klopp is known for keeping an eye for young talents and this seems to be the case here with the German keeping tabs on the young Kasper Dolberg.

Dolberg has played 35 games for Ajax this season and has scored 13 goals so far. He has also registered 7 assists to his name and is soon turning into a young European hotshot. Last season, it was Vincent Janssen who set Netherlands on fire with his blazing performances and Dolberg has taken over from the former AZ Alkmaar striker.

The young Danish striker is known for his explosive style of play, with his dribbling and finishing being his major weapons. He can also thread a pass for his teammates and can test the goalkeepers from distance when he gets the chance. At a young age, Dolberg can only get better with time. Although he isn’t a great contributor defensively, he likes to go for a tackle every now and then.

He would surely be a great signing for any team and Klopp will be keeping an eye on his progress.
