Paris St Germain have become a surprise destination for England striker Daniel Sturridge, after it has emerged that the French club are targeting the want-away Liverpool striker in the summer. Sturridge has had very little first-team opportunities since Jurgen Klopp arrived as the Liverpool manager more than a year ago. Constant media exchanges between the two have led to the relationship deteriorated even further. It looks highly unlikely that Sturridge will now be able to reclaim a first-team spot at Liverpool unless Klopp changes his mind.

PSG have been linked with a move for the England striker, who is valued at around £30 million by Liverpool and the club are ready to listen to offers for the 27-year old. The former Chelsea and Manchester City striker has a contract with the club until the summer of 2019. As a result, Liverpool could see the upcoming summer transfer window as the best opportunity to receive the maximum transfer fee for the player.

The goal scoring abilities of Sturridge have never been doubted, but the striker’s poor run in terms of injuries has been a major factor behind losing his place in the Liverpool first-team. Sturridge has featured in 14 league matches this season, but only five have come as a starter. Yet, the 27-year-old has not been able to convince Klopp that he deserves a starting place after managing only two goals in these 14 league matches. Even though he is regarded as one of the devastating centre-forwards in England, only Stoke City and West Ham have shown interest in the player over the last few weeks.

This would represent a massive step in the wrong direction for the player, who was at his devastating best in the 2013-14 season when Liverpool almost came close to winning the Premier League title for the first time. Since scoring 24 goals in 33 appearances in that campaign, Sturridge has only managed 23 goals in the following three seasons. His career has been plagued by injuries, and the striker may very well consider moving away from Anfield in order to get a fresh start. He was signed from Chelsea for around £12 million in the January 2012 transfer window.

Liverpool have also been interested in a number of forwards like Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams and Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette.
