Liverpool are keen to put an end to contract stand-off problem with Emre Can as the club prepares to offer better terms to revive the negotiations. According to Echo, Liverpool are willing to continue negotiating with Emre’s agents to conclude a good deal for both the parties.
Can’s representatives had been seeking around £100,000 per week for the player who currently earns £55,000. The negotiations hit a deadlock before Christmas last year but now the club are interested in re-initiating the contract talks.
Can hasn’t managed to become a Liverpool regular this season. However, he is an important player for Klopp’s plans and is a quality player. He played brilliantly against Arsenal last weekend in the absence of skipper Jordan Henderson and reminded every one of his abilities.
He is likely to retain his place in the team with Henderson yet to return to fitness and has a wonderful opportunity to showcase his skills once again.
Klopp was recently asked about Emre Can’s contract situation and he responded by saying that he speaks to the players and not to the press.
He said: “I speak to the players, not the press. If I say yes it puts pressure on the club to do it immediately. If I say no the player thinks I do not want him anymore. Emre knows exactly what we want. That’s the only thing that matters.”
Can’s contract comes to an end in the summer of 2018 and if he chooses not to renew his contract, then Liverpool would be left with two options of either cashing in on him or to lose him for free at the end of next season.
Earlier in November, Can spoke to Echo about his situation and said, “It is my agent’s work (to sort it out). I am very happy here at Liverpool.”
Can has made 29 appearances for Liverpool this season and has scored 3 goals and 3 assists so far. A majority of his appearances have come in the league games and there have been a couple of short appearances in the FA cup.
He has played a total of 1820 minutes so far and will be hoping to get more time on the pitch if he is to sign a new contract. It is evident that Jurgen Klopp believes in the player and it is the wonderful performances of Adam Lallana, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum that is keeping the German international out of the lineup often.
If he does decide to stay at Anfield, chances are high that he will get more game time next season and Can should take his chance and continue his career at Anfield.
He is still young and has a lot of time ahead of him to grow as a player. Jurgen Klopp might be the right person to bring the best out of him.
