Liverpool are set to battle two Premier League clubs as they look to add more quality to their defence. The Reds have struggled to keep clean sheets in the Premier League and with questions still being asked about Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip, the Daily Mirror claims that Kostas Manolas was watched by the Liverpool scouts.

The same report also claims that Arsenal and Manchester United want to sign the Roma central defender, who is valued at £35million and he was watched by the scouts in the recent Europa League game against Lyon.

While Roma were knocked out of the competition by the French side, Manolas has impressed for the Serie A club. The 25-year-old Greek international has played 23 games in the Italian league and has played in seven Europa League games as well.

Manolas is known to be great in the air and can pass out from the back too, something that will please Jurgen Klopp but there could be some issues regarding the signature of the 25-year-old.

The Greek still has a couple of years left on his contract and there are a number of suitors that want to sign him up. Liverpool will not be able win a bidding war for a player that hasn’t always done well for club and country.

While the 25-year-old has a lot of time to still learn and grow, since he is a central defender, he does have to be more consistent and he certainly isn’t better than Matip and Lovren at the moment.

Liverpool have to be worried about their central defence as the likes of Ragnar Klavan, Matip and Lovren have all struggled at times during the course of the season.

The Reds will also lose out on Mamadou Sakho in the summer as the Frenchman is a certainty to leave the club after his bust-up with Klopp at the start of the season.
