Liverpool’s transfer market spending will be decided on their qualification for the Champions League. The Reds are currently fourth in the Premier League and should they win all their remaining games, they should make it to the European competition next season.

There have been a number of players linked with the Reds recently and the names are bigger as soon as the Champions League is thrown into the mix. The latest player who could be moving to Merseyside is Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez and according to the Mirror, the Reds are confident of landing the player if Champions League qualification is sealed.

The 25-year-old had been linked with a number of clubs last season and he has fallen out of favour in the Spanish capital under Zinedine Zidane. The Colombian could be one of the high-profile players leaving the side and Zidane has been sounding out replacements, such as Eden Hazard of Chelsea.

A source close to the La Liga side stated that the former Monaco star isn’t happy with his time at Madrid.

“It seems Zidane is not satisfied with the player this season and has already asked for reinforcements in this position for next season.

“The player isn’t happy and it now appears a move in the summer is very feasible.”

Rodriguez does have a contract till 2020 at Madrid and is valued at close to £65 million. Liverpool aren’t the only clubs looking to sign the Colombian star and even Manchester United were linked with the player as well.

The Real Madrid man has only started seven La Liga games this season and has made seven appearances as a substitute too. A tally of two goals and five assists doesn’t reflect how good a player Rodriguez is but it is tough to see how he would fit in Klopp’s playing style at Liverpool.

Rodriguez isn’t known for his defensive contribution or tracking back, which is something that Klopp wants from almost all his players. The Colombian is one of the sure shots to leave the La Liga giants next season, and he could be the fulcrum of the attacks should someone from the first team leave but for now, he would not be looking to sit on the bench.
