Max Meyer is just one of the few players that Liverpool have been linked with from the Bundesliga. The young midfielder has been one of the brightest players for Schalke and with Jurgen Klopp at the helm of the Premier League club; it isn’t a surprise that the manager has been in contact regarding the German the players.
The Bundesliga club’s sporting director Christian Heidel, who handed Klopp his first coaching job at Mainz, spoke about the fact that Meyer’s contract is up in 2018 and also added that he had spoken to Klopp.
“I last had contact with Klopp after our Europa League match at Gladbach,” he said, adding that Klopp only congratulated him on reaching the quarterfinal of the competition.
When asked if Meyer was close to joining Liverpool, Heidel said, “I’d argue that I’d know about anything in that direction.”
He also went on to reveal that there were no negotiations over a new contract for the player. He said, “A new contract? You talk about a new deal when both sides are happy.”
Meyer is certainly one player that has caught the eye of a number of Premier League clubs and he does tick a number of boxes for the Liverpool manager.
The German is young, dynamic and talented enough to do well under Klopp and given his contract predicament and Klopp’s connection with the club’s sporting director, fans will be expecting the signing to take place soon.

The 21-year-old can play in a few positions but he stars in the heart of the midfield and certainly could be a good option for the Reds to have next season. The problem with all this is the fact that Liverpool were linked with Mahmoud Dahoud and it seemed the German was set to sign with the Reds.
But that all fell apart recently with Borussia Dortmund, Klopp’s old club, stating that they had sealed the deal for Dahoud and that came as a huge blow for the Merseyside club.
Fans certainly were displeased with the fact that Liverpool couldn’t sign a player that went for a paltry transfer fee and they did raise a few questions about the policies of FSG when it comes to bringing in talent for next season.
Unless the Reds complete moves for talented players quickly they will struggle with the extra number of matches that may come with European football next season. Meyer could be a great coup but there have been a number of false dawns at the Merseyside club.
