Liverpool’s search for a top striker seems to be heading to South America according to reports from Italy. The Merseyside club are in the running to sign Luis Muriel from Sampdoria according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The 25-year-old Colombian might not be a known name to many Premier League fans but he has done pretty well for the Serie A club this season. Muriel has scored 10 goals in the league and has chipped in with five assists in 29 appearances.

That isn’t a prolific record but Muriel could be part of a fluid front three for the Reds next season. The Colombian can play as the striker on top or out wide and is known for his ability to find the right pass for the team.

The report claims that Liverpool are just one a few clubs looking to trigger the £24 million release clause for the striker. The Mirror had also reported that West Ham were keeping tabs on the forward.

Atletico Madrid, AS Roma and Sevilla are the foreign clubs looking to add Muriel to their side and it will be interesting to see just who ends up getting the player.

Striker issues for the Reds

Liverpool have had their own problems when it comes to dealing with strikers. Divock Origi isn’t the finished product as of yet and still needs time to develop. The major concern would be regarding Daniel Sturridge as the Englishman has been out injured for a while this season as well.

The former Chelsea and Manchester City striker seems set to be sold by Jurgen Klopp in the summer and Muriel could be a cheap signing who can work wonders for the club.

But the fact that he has never played in the Premier League and isn’t someone that seems like a player that Klopp would move for.

The German manager would be looking at more talent from the Bundesliga next season and while Muriel might be on the move to another club, Anfield seems like a destination too far for him.
