Ryan Sessegnon

Liverpool are reportedly hoping to beat a host of clubs to sign the highly rated left-back Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham. The 16-year-old Englishman has been one of the top performers for the Cottagers and even became the youngest player ever to score in an FA Cup in a 2-1 win over Cardiff.

The Daily Mail claims that Liverpool have made the youngster a prime target and are looking to beat the likes of Tottenham and Manchester City in signing the player. Pep Guardiola is looking to add more quality to his side and with Gael Clichy and Aleksandar Kolarov more or less guaranteed to be out of the squad, Sessegnon could be a great option to have.

Tottenham, for their part, have one of the most exciting sides in the Premier League and with Mauricio Pochettino at the helm, Sessegnon could have a bright future under the Argentine manager.

However, the club ahead in the race is Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp has been looking to add more players for the left-back slot. James Milner has been the player who has been preferred in this position as Alberto Moreno isn’t trusted anymore.

The Reds would have to stump up £15 million to sign the talented player up and that would be a great investment for the future. But Liverpool need someone who can do a job from next season onwards.

The Kop Times Verdict

Sessegnon has had a great season in the Championship as well but stepping up to the Premier League is a huge jump and the Englishman might need a lot of time adjusting to the rigours of the top level of football.

Klopp does have a history of working wonders with youngsters, and has given a number of chances to Liverpool youngsters this season but Sessegnon isn’t ready for the Premier League yet and he wouldn’t be a reliable player for the Reds for an entire season as of yet.
