Liverpool are lining up a shock move for Bayern Munich’s tricky winger Douglas Costa. A number of reports claim that the Merseyside club are leading the chase for the Brazilian and the 26-year-old could turn out to be a marquee signing for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Costa, who has only started 13 Bundesliga games this season, is reportedly upset at his lack of playing time and the fact that Carlo Ancelotti prefers Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben out wide.

The 26-year-old is also upset at the fact that his contract negotiations with the Bavarian giants have stalled and Tuttosport claim (via Daily Express) that Italian giants Juventus along with Tottenham are also in the running for the winger. It was earlier reported by the Mirror, that Spurs are ready to splash £30m for the Brazilian.

Liverpool, however, are leading the chase for the wide player and would have to stump out at least £35 million for the pacey attacker.

Bayern had bought Costa for £21 million in 2012 and he has become one of their best players, especially under attack. It isn’t a surprise that a number of clubs are interested in the winger and Liverpool could do with someone of Costa’s attacking ability.

Even with his limited playing time, the 26-year-old has scored four times in the league and has added three assists to his name. His pace and trickery would certainly work well in a Klopp team that needs players pressing from the top.

Liverpool have had issues with their attack this season with Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane missing chunks of the season which has taken the fizz out of the campaign. The Reds were expected to be challenging for the title after a great chance but now are in serious danger of missing out on the Champions League places.

Costa, for his part, would be a great signing for almost any club in the world and it does seem unlikely that he would be coming to the Reds, unless they secure Champions League football for next season.

There would be a bidding war in the summer should Costa not get his new deal at Bayern and Liverpool will hope that Klopp can work some magic and secure the signing of the impressive Brazilian.
