Philippe Coutinho of Liverpool.

Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho has responded to speculation regarding his future and boy we must say he did so in style! The magical Brazilian has been linked with a move away from Liverpool over the course of the season, with Barcelona touted as the preferred destination.

However, Coutinho has now responded to all the rumours linking him with a move away from Anfield and his response would surely earn him a lot of love from the Liverpool faithful.

Speaking to ESPN Brasil (h/t Independent), Coutinho gave a perfect response to the question regarding his future.

He said,

“I have a long contract with Liverpool. Speculations are for journalists only. Stay here and they will end up building a statue in your honour. Go somewhere else, to Barcelona, to Bayern Munich, to Real Madrid, and you will be just another player. Here you can be something more.”

What an answer that was! Surely, if he does carry on playing the way he does, there is every chance of him being considered a Liverpool legend in the future. Coutinho arrived as a 21-year old from Inter and his rise over these years has been phenomenal.

In this injury-ridden season, the little magician has scored 14 goals and provided 9 assists from 36 appearances. He has been on the pitch for approximately 2500 minutes and had he played more, he would have contributed much more than this.

It has been a little unfortunate for the Reds on the injury front as Coutinho missed a good chunk of games and Mane having suffered an injury too, which saw him get ruled out for the season. He hasn’t played in the last few weeks and had the pair been together for more time, the team would have been in a much better position in the table.

Nevertheless, now that Coutinho has confirmed that he is staying at the club, it is important to spend a good sum of money and bring in some big name players. After all, we have qualified for the Champions League and the team is only a qualification round win away from entering the group stages of the competition.

With Coutinho, Mane and another world class arrival playing together, Liverpool would be a force to reckon with. However, strengthening the defence should also be a top priority as the major problem has been at the back.

Do you think Coutinho will earn himself a statue at the end of his Liverpool career?
