Liverpool are now set for a Champions League return after 2 years and some significant strengthening would be needed if we are to stay afloat in the competition for the years to come.

Surely, we are a little far away from winning the elite trophy but it isn’t impossible as we have a world-class manager in Jurgen Klopp. The German has managed to deliver Champions League football in his first full season in charge of the club and it is a commendable achievement considering the amount of pressure and competition involved.

Our title challenge faded away since the turn of the year and it coincided with Sadio Mane’s absence. There are a lot of positives to consider from the season that was concluded a few days back. Coutinho was phenomenal and there is no confusion now regarding his future. As a matter of fact, there are no problems with futures of the star players at the club, which is good news.

However, the team does need some changes and it is important to let go of few players in the squad, who are maybe not good enough to play for Liverpool? Another problem is that the defence has been leaky. It surely needs some bolstering to be done and there’s no denying that.

The news is that Liverpool are planning a spending spree of over £100m, with a host of quality players on the agenda. According to the Telegraph, Liverpool will embark on a record-breaking transfer spree to build on the top four finish, with Fenway Sports Group expected to spend well over £100million on new recruits, with Southampton’s Virgil Van Dijk as a target and rated at least £50million. Along with the Southampton star, Roma’s Mohamed Salah remains as a top target for the summer.

Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita are expected to be on the shortlist as well and it was also reported that Liverpool have their sights set on a top-class striker.

Winning the Champions League qualification round will put Liverpool in an extremely good position as the lure of Champions League football would be a good attraction for top players. Nevertheless, Liverpool are something more than just Champions League football and we can expect some transfer frenzy in the summer.

Who do you think we’ll sign this summer?
