Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a move for Napoli left-back Faouzi Ghoulam as Klopp continues his search for a left-back. Our problems at the back are well documented as James Milner was used as a full-back all season.

Luckily, the versatile veteran performed well and remained solid all season. Despite this, Liverpool conceded goals quite easily and surely, Klopp would know that he has a task in hand – to fix the leaking tap.

We have been linked with a lot of left-backs in the previous few months. Ghoulam was on the list as well and Liverpool are now eyeing a move for the player.

According to a report by Sky Sports Italy’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Liverpool are keeping tabs on the Algerian left-back Faouzi Ghoulam and could open negotiations with the defender’s representatives very soon.

The 26-year-old has been Napoli’s first choice left back for the last three seasons after moving to the club from Saint-Etienne in 2014 and is widely regarded as one of the most impressive full-backs in Serie A. Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis is renowned for being a tough negotiator and Ghoulam would not come cheap.

Ghoulam made a total of 38 appearances last season and registered 10 assists. Ghoulam also has some wealthy Champions League experience and would come in handy when we play in the Europe’s elite competition.

The Kop Times Verdict

Faouzi is a good passer, is strong in the air and his ball retention is good as well. He has an eye for a good pass and would be a valuable addition to our ranks as Klopp’s style of play will demand some attacking instincts from the full-back too.

However, Ghoulam is someone who is not a great tackler. One might wonder how Ghoulam would be a good defender if he cannot tackle. Well, defending isn’t all about tackling; I can assure you that! He is a type of player who doesn’t dive into tackles and keeps himself out of referee’s books. The fact that he received just 2 yellow cards all season shows how composed he is.

Do you think Faouzi Ghoulam is who we need at the back?
