A young English starlet joined us for free from Tottenham back in 2014 and it was a move that divided opinions amongst the fans. A certain Kevin Stewart arrived at Anfield having not made a single senior team appearance for Spurs. He had to wait until 2015/16 season to make his Liverpool debut and since then, he has made a total of 26 appearances for us.

He has been striving hard to make it to the senior team on a regular basis and he continues to have the same as his goal for next season as well.

Stewart, in his recent interview with the club’s official website, revealed his plans for the future and revealed that he was determined to bounce back from the injury frustration he endured at the end of 2016-17 by getting more game time for Liverpool next term.

He last featured for us in an FA Cup tie at Plymouth Argyle back in January, meaning he tallied just nine appearances over the course of the season. An injury issue thwarted his opportunities to add to that figure, but Stewart hasn’t lost any faith in his ability to challenge regularly for a place in Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, he said,

“Trying to break through, trying to stay fit and trying to be ready for when I’m called upon [is my aim]. Next season there are going to be a lot of games, especially if we qualify for the Champions League, so I just want to keep fit in the summer, work hard and then see where the season takes us.”

“That’s the thing that keeps me going – I’ve done it before, so I know it’s possible. I see the players I train with and they’re amazing players I’m competing with and playing with, but I will keep believing because I’ve been through it before.”

I love the way Stewart is looking at things here. The guy is 23 and has a lot of time to develop himself. However, it would have been more encouraging had he featured more for us by this time. But he still remains a promising talent and it is wonderful to see the youngster staying strong despite a frustrating injury setback early in his Liverpool career.

Hopefully, Stewart achieves his goal for next season and eventually, we end up unearthing another exciting young talent from our ranks.
