Liverpool finally completed the signing of one of the primary targets for the summer with Mohamed Salah joining us for a fee of £36.9 million from Serie A side Roma (Guardian).
The deal had been kept on tenterhooks for a week or so as our initial bid of £28 million (Independent) was deemed to be too low for one of the best players in the Italian league last season.
Salah becomes the most expensive player in the history of the club, thankfully Andy Carroll can be removed from that mark, and many will expect him to continue his goal scoring and creating ways like he was doing for fun in Italy.
The 25-year-old certainly has the pace and ability to make life difficult for defences in England and even Jurgen Klopp was pleased with his capture. The German did say that Salah’s speed and attacking ability would work great for us and with Sadio Mane on the other wing, we would be one of the toughest attacks to play against. Klopp was quoted by the Daily Mirror as saying;
“His pace is incredible, he gives us more attacking threat and we are already strong in this area. I like that we will make it even more competitive,” the German said.
“Most important though, for us, is that he is hungry, willing and eager to be even better and improve further
“He is an ambitious player who wants to win and win at the highest level; he knows he can fulfil those ambitions with Liverpool. I welcome him and his family into our Liverpool family.
This is a story of second time lucky for us as Salah should have been a Red prior to signing for Chelsea. But with a number of years of experience under his belt, the Egyptian is a better player now and should be prepared for the rigors of the Premier League.
If he ends up having a similar impact as that of the Senegalese, we could be in for one fantastic season.
Our fans too seem to be pleased with the signing, at least some of them, and here are some of the best reactions from Twitter on Salah’s signing.

Salah & Mane fully fit and firing can be a devastating cocktail of pace, dynamism,craft, graft and goals. Perfect wide men in a 4-3-3.

Mohamed Salah to Liverpool could be like an Eden Hazard. Not as good, but still excellent. They very much remind me of each other.

Mohamed Salah clocked 35.4 km/h in a Serie A match last season. Usain Bolt averaged a speed of 37.58 km/h during his 100m world record ♂️

Got to admit, with Mane & Salah on either wing, Liverpool have got some frightening pace! It’s ok though, Ben Davies will be fine!

Isn’t it incredible that Liverpool’s record signing until today had been Andy Carroll? And that Salah is only £1.9m more expensive.
