Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Just when it seemed that we are more or less done in the transfer window, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain might have kicked up a storm regarding his future at Arsenal.

The 23-year-old Englishman was one of the players linked with a move to us during the start of the transfer window but those rumours cooled down after we signed Mohamed Salah and Dominic Solanke.

However, there might still be something brewing behind the scenes as a Twitter user shared an image of the Arsenal utility man liking a comment on Instagram which suggested that he could be moving to join the Reds for a fee of £28million.

We should be taking this with a pinch of salt, to be honest, as many a time, players have been linked with a move to us via social media and the fans have been left with egg on their faces.

Naby Keita and Virgil van Dijk are two examples of deals being almost announced thanks to social media posts and then nothing transpiring in the end. In fact, we might not be signing either of the two players as per Jurgen Klopp’s latest statement of being happy with the squad, ahead of the first game against Watford.

The Ox is one of a handful of players who have just one year left on their current contracts at Arsenal and he could be available for a free at the start of next season. However, the 23-year-old might want to move to a club that’d give him more playing time ahead of the World Cup year. Arsenal did play Oxlade-Chamberlain as a left wingback in their Community Shield win against Chelsea on Sunday.

Arsene Wenger has also made it clear that Alexis Sanchez is not for sale and that he will allow him to run his contract out as the Gunners try to return to the Champions League. The French manager could take a similar stance with Ox too and it would take a massive bid from our side to bring Oxlade-Chamberlain to Anfield.

Should we not sign Van Dijk or Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain might be a decent player to have in the side but it would be tough to see him start as many games as he would want to, thanks to the plethora of talent we have in our midfield. The Ox might become one of our full-backs and that is certainly not what he would sign up for at any Premier League club.
