Why Liverpool Could Be Wise To Throw In This 27-year Old To Lure £30m Attacker Away From Ligue 1

The Julian Draxler saga keeps getting more confusing as earlier it was reported that the German would leave the club as PSG had signed Neymar but his agent stated that the former Schalke man was not going anywhere.

Speaking to Sport 1 in Germany, Draxler’s agent Rodger Wittman said:

“We are not interested in whether L’Equipe wrote something. There has been no change, it is not a topic.

“If somebody writes ‘I have this information from Nasser Al-Khelaifi [PSG chairman and CEO],’ then I will consider it and call the president to speak about Julian’s situation.

“Once again, though, this is not the case. So, everything has been said.”

However, that has not doused any flames of the 23-year-old moving away from France after just joining the Ligue1 giants in January for £30m.

In the case that we really need Draxler to arrive, why not use one of our players in the negotiations and offer him in exchange? I suggest that Jurgen Klopp should look to use Mamadou Sakho as part of the deal to bring Draxler to Anfield, as Klopp is not too keen on using Sakho in his plans.

It makes sense to me, due to the fact that PSG have a lot of talent in their attacking third, with Neymar joining Angel di Maria, Lucas Moura, Edinson Cavani, Javier Pastore and Hatem Ben Arfa.

With the World Cup coming up, Draxler would want to play as many games as possible. That seems highly unlikely at Paris as the French club will start Neymar in more games than any other player and Draxler would be lower down the pecking order.

Whether or not of PSG would be interested in taking Sakho is a different question altogether, PSG being PSG would probably take him in, as they are always expected to do the unexpected. Sakho is not a bad player after all. It is just that he has fallen out of favour with Klopp. So there’s every chance of us convincing the French club to accept the offer.

Mamadou Sakho

We, on the other hand, are having to fend off Barcelona as the Catalan giants look to sign Philippe Coutinho. Even if we don’t sell the Brazilian, bringing Draxler to our side would give us another dimension to our attack. Playing in Europe will also take an effect on the side and we will have to rotate our side, just like we did in the game against Crystal Palace.

Sakho moving back to France would also make sense as he is not in our first-team plans. The big issue would be if PSG would take him back, as he left them to join us a few years back. The French defender did not play for us last season and spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Crystal Palace.

Even if we aren’t willing to let go of Sakho, we should put in a bid for Draxler to see just how the player and club react. We are in need of more attacking options and if we can get the German to our club, it might just turn out to be a great transfer window for us.

Nevertheless, in case we are not going to use Sakho in our team, there is no point in having him around and it would be better to get rid of him and replace him with a better quality player, irrespective of whether it is an attacker or another defender. A defender would be preferable though, as our struggle at the back is widely known.
