Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho was the cynosure of all action on the deadline day of this summer transfer window. The Brazilian who was wanted by Barcelona, had set his heart on a move, but couldn’t get his wish and had to stay back at the club.

All through the summer, the reports of Coutinho being courted by Barcelona hogged the headlines as Jurgen Klopp decided to hold his star player firm. The 25-year-old was missing in action and the official reason was that he was suffering from a back injury.

However, the playmaker recovered miraculously to take part in Brazil’s World Cup Qualifier on Thursday against Ecuador. Not just taking part, he capped the win for Brazil with a wonder goal that made everyone sit and take notice. The recovery raised eyebrows on Twitter with followers questioning the “miracle”.

But, there is no surprise in Coutinho recovering and scoring that wonder goal. As indicated by Brazil doctor Michael Simoni earlier this week, the injury was more mental than physical, according to an Esporte interview that was quoted by Goal.com. He said:

“Coutinho’s back problem? He is okay now. The back problem was a matter of stress, it was something emotional. The uncertainty about his future led him to feeling stressed. Everything is solved now.

“Coutinho and I have been friends for years. I always treat his medical cases. All he needed was someone to give him a pep talk.”

The playmaker wanted the move and reportedly submitted a transfer request over email but the Reds didn’t budge. Even an offer of £118million couldn’t sway Liverpool’s board and it was rejected outright.

There was a doubt in some circles that Barcelona would come back on September 1 with another offer as the transfer window only closes a day later in Spain. However, the fans can rest, as latest reports from Spain claim the Catalans have finally given up their pursuit of the 25-year old. (Mundo Deportivo)

Anyone who has seen the wonder goal should know why Klopp is so adamant on having Coutinho in his side. The Brazilian is one of the best playmakers in the Premier League and can score wonder goals with ease.

Now that his future is settled, let us all hope that he gets back to business and brings his best game to Anfield, leading the Reds to greater heights this season.
