Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

For the Nth time, Liverpool have been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund hotshot Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ahead of his proposed move to the Chinese Super League, quotes a report from LeSport10.

Aubameyang, 28, has firmly been linked with a move to China with the likes of Guangzhou Evergrande and Beijing Guoan being mooted as the potential destinations. Furthermore, as far as the transfer fee is concerned, the aforementioned source has quoted a £63.5million move for the Gabon international.

The Reds recently sanctioned Philippe Coutinho’s sale to FC Barcelona for a fee that could potentially rise up to £142million, and with cash in hand, we might really make a move this time. Furthermore, the fact that the Gabon international was signed by Jurgen Klopp back in 2013 from France during his time with Dortmund can work in their favour as well. However, competing with the financially rich Chinese Super League sides won’t be a walk in the park.

As per LeSport10, the two Chinese clubs have relaunched the negotiation for a transfer this winter. Auba’s links with the Chinese sides weren’t born overnight, to say the least. The teams were linked in the summer as well and they even approached him with a proposal €30m-a-year pay, but a move failed to materialise. Moreover, Real Madrid have been his long-term admirers too. Even the player himself was once keen on moving to Santiago Bernabeu, only to be denied by Dortmund’s hierarchy.

Acquiring Aubameyang will undoubtedly be a positive boost for the Reds but his arrival will result in a sure shot departure of Daniel Sturridge or Divock Origi. The former has hardly featured under Jurgen Klopp, while the latter is currently on loan at Wolfsburg.

It is rather surprising to see Aubameyang get linked with us. Klopp seems to trust Roberto Firmino but given a choice, the German might not say no to someone of Aubameyang’s quality. It’ll be interesting to see how this story moves further.
