Bordeaux manager Jocelyn Gourvennec has hinted that Liverpool could also be in the running for Brazilian starlet Malcom. Arsenal have been heavily linked with the 20-year-old this transfer window and are targeting the winger as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez.

The Chilean forward appears to be on his way out of the Emirates this month with Manchester United understood to be the club leading the chase for his signature.

Malcom, 20, has emerged as one of Ligue 1’s shining lights this season. The Brazilian has impressed a lot with Bordeaux this campaign, scoring 7 goals and 5 assists in 19 appearances.

But with Arsenal’s interest in both Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Malcom may be forced to wait for his move to the Premier League. Bordeaux boss Jocelyn Gourvennec, however, has bizarrely referenced Liverpool as a potential destination.

Asked about rumours of the attacker’s exit, Gourvennec was quoted by Metro:

“I can’t deny that he’s being followed by a lot of people. With Malcom, I go from day-to-day.

“He’s committed. He’s a bit, like he was in the summer…I wouldn’t say he has been disturbed by it, that’s a bit strong, he’s not disturbed, but he is asking questions.

”He’s asking himself what’s the best thing for him, for his future. That’s logical. If he’s asking questions and he still manages to make assists or score goals, it’ll be fine.”

However, instead of mentioning Arsenal, Gourvennec curiously named Liverpool as a possible destination for Malcom. He added:

“If Liverpool want you to work for them tomorrow, you’d go.

“I’m a coach, I’d like to be able to count on Malcom, Malcom has to help us. There is one person who decides in this, that’s the majority shareholder. He talked about this at the weekend, but football remains football.”

Liverpool are not expected to enter the transfer market this January after their attempts to speed up Naby Keita’s arrival from RB Leipzig were denied by the Bundesliga club. Following the sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona earlier this month, we have a lot of money to spend and our gaffer Jurgen Klopp must be in a hunt to replace the Brazilian in January.

Malcom is a good talent – fast, nippy, agile and hard-working. But if Klopp is planning to get him signed this month, the prospect looks highly unlikely.
