Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno is back in training with the squad as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury. The Spanish left-back was forced off just before half-time during the Reds’ 7-0 Champions League victory over Spartak Moscow in December last year after twisting his ankle in a spirited tackle.

Moreno, who recently returned to full training, had travelled with the squad for Monday’s shock defeat to Swansea City. However, over a month after getting injured, the defender has provided a positive update on his fitness, revealing that his ankle is ‘getting better every day.’

“The good news is that it’s getting better each day,” Moreno told Liverpoolfc.com.

“The thing about your ankle is that it’s a part of your body you’re always putting your full weight on, that makes it a little bit more complicated.

“I can still feel it’s not quite right but it’s getting better every day and the good thing is that I’m training with the rest of the group. We’re just waiting for this little discomfort to go away and then I’ll be raring to go.”

The flying Spaniard does not have a potential comeback date in mind, meaning Saturday’s FA Cup fourth-round tie with West Bromwich Albion is likely to come too soon for him.

Asked about the prospect of featuring against the Baggies, he added:

“I honestly don’t know. It’ll be the manager who decides exactly when I come back but what I do want to make sure of is that I’m fully 100 per cent when I do make my comeback.

“You don’t want to not live up to what you can do when you’re fully fit, so it’s a case of getting that match fitness at 100 per cent so as not to let people down.”

It is very clear that Moreno still isn’t pain-free and our manager Jurgen Klopp would not risk taking any chances. Klopp would look to ease the defender into the first-team by giving him few minutes in the initial stages in order to make sure the player attains his 100% fitness.

Once Moreno gains full fitness, our gaffer would then think of unleashing him. However, with Andrew Roberston having seized the chance presented by Moreno’s injury, Klopp would have no hurry in rushing the former Sevilla man.

The last time we played West Brom, the game ended in a 0-0 draw. This time around, we need to make sure we win the game and knock out Alan Pardew’s side from the FA Cup.
