Coutinho for Jan, Sturridge for Feb, Can for March – Liverpool’s 2018 official calendar is seriously trying to reveal something

It has been a dismal transfer month for Liverpool and the fans. It started on a good note to be honest, with the club completing the signing of the highly-rated Virgil van Dijk from Southampton. The Reds have been accused of having a porous defence and Jurgen Klopp, after understanding the problem, rightly addressed it earlier this month with the addition of the Dutch centre-half.

The entire mood that had built at the Merseyside soon soured when playmaker Philippe Coutinho completed his dream move to Barcelona. In the club’s official 2018 calendar, Coutinho was selected as the poster boy for January, but he departed earlier this month.

Daniel Sturridge was chosen as February’s player, but the England international left the club to join West Brom on loan until the end of the season.

Sturridge’s decision to leave was justified as he has found first-team opportunities hard to come by this season. But the decision to let him leave the club without any replacement baffles me and certainly baffles many Kopites around the world as well.

While Coutinho and Sturridge have gone – the poster boys of January and February- it is time to shift our attention to the month of March. Interestingly, midfielder Emre Can has been selected as March’s poster player. It is ominous and to see the German already linked with a move away from Anfield just shows how strangely the club has created this year’s calendar.

With only a day to go for the winter transfer window to slam shut, there is no chance of us selling Can now but given he has entered the final six months of his contract and will become a free agent in the summer, there is every reason for us to be worried about.

The German international is yet to sign a new contract with the club and it looks highly possible that Serie A champions Juventus will sign the midfielder in the summer for absolutely free. It sounds ridiculous but as we head to the business end of the season, the chances of Can staying with us becomes slimmer.

Anyway, to cheer up a bit, April features James Milner! However, the versatile player is for sure not going anywhere even in the summer.
