Liverpool have identified Napoli midfielder Jorginho as their top summer transfer target, several reports suggest.

The 26-year-old has been the fulcrum of Napoli, who are currently on the top of Serie A standings. The midfielder has caught the attention of a number of top clubs including Liverpool, due to his fantastic performances at the heart of the midfield this season.

Klopp is believed to be making plans to lure Jorginho away from Napoli at the end of the season, as per the Times (h/t Birmingham Live).

However, the Reds are bound to face stiff competition for Jorginho with a number of European stalwarts keeping tabs on him.

The report claims that the wish list in the first two instances could take the Liverpool manager to Serie A. Napoli’s holding midfielder Jorginho would our first choice but the problem is that the Brazilian-born Italian international would also be a top target for many of the elite European clubs.

Jorginho has been spectacular in dictating the play for Napoli that has taken Maurizio Sarri’s team to the top of Serie A. His passing is crisp and the way he shields the Italian club is next to nothing. Jorginho makes Sarri’s team tick and provides the perfect balance on the pitch by knitting the defence with attack.

That shows how significant acquiring his signature would be, as Jorginho is considered one of the top players in Italy.

Emre Can is highly likely to leave Anfield at the end of the season as his contract expires. That could make Klopp realise the significance of a new recruit and there would be no one better than Jorginho to replace the German.

Naby Keita will arrive at the end of the season but he isn’t exactly a defensive midfielder and needs a reliable presence alongside him in order to blossom.

Skipper Jordan Henderson has done well in the deeper role but it is high time Klopp splashes the cash to get a strong and skilful defensive midfielder.

Jorginho ticks all the boxes and would be the ideal fit to partner Keita next season.

Napoli apparently could play hardball in the summer but if the Reds launch an eye-popping bid, I don’t see why the Italian outfit won’t sell one of their prized assets to us.
