Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Valencia midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia after the conclusion of this campaign. The Frenchman, who is currently on loan at the Spanish side from Inter, has been in good form for Valencia, scoring 4 goals and providing 2 assists in 27 appearances in all competitions.

Valencia have the option to make the deal permanent for the 25-year-old at the end of the season. And according to few reports, the Spanish outfit have triggered the option to turn his loan deal into a permanent one by paying €25m.

However, as per Italian outlet Fc Inter News (h/t TEAMtalk), Premier League clubs including Liverpool are battling it out for Kondogbia.

The Reds are believed to be the frontrunners for the signature of the defensive midfielder, who is a long-term Arsenal target. With Emre Can highly likely to leave the club after the expiry of his contract in June, it makes perfect sense for Jurgen Klopp to make a move for Kondogbia.

The Liverpool manager is understood to be a big fan of the former Monaco man and has been monitoring his progress this season at Valencia.

Kondogbia is a true athlete with towering presence and physicality. His hard-tackling and aggressive nature makes him a perfect player for Klopp. The midfielder is just 25 and has his best years ahead of him. The Frenchman also possesses sound technical qualities and will only get better. Under the guidance of Klopp, Kondogbia will be able to reach his true potential.

Currently plying his trade at Valencia, the 25-year-old regularly appears in La Liga, producing impressive tackling and interception stats while also receiving praises for the way he controls games from deep.

Liverpool indeed need a defensive midfielder, who can control the tempo of the game from the deep and also act as a deep-lying playmaker. Skipper Jordan Henderson has performed decently over the years but divides opinions amongst our fans. He is neither physically robust nor aggressive but keeps the Liverpool midfield ticking.

However, Kondogbia would be an instant upgrade on Henderson and at times, could also allow the England international to play a bit higher up the pitch.

It remains to be seen whether Klopp is truly interested in the Frenchman, who has recently stated that he wants to stay at Valencia.
