The agent of Napoli star Jorginho, Joao Santos, has revealed that the midfielder wants to stay at the club. The 26-year-old is rated as one of the best deep-lying midfielders across Europe and is renowned for breaking up play with wonderful passing abilities, with an eye for goal as well.

The midfielder has been in spectacular form this season, having made 25 appearances in the Serie A, scoring twice and assisting once. And that sublime form hasn’t gone unnoticed as according to the Daily Star, Liverpool are closely monitoring his progress. Manchester United have also joined bitter rivals Liverpool in the battle to sign the Napoli midfielder.

The Daily Star claims that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is in pole position to sign Jorginho after targeting him as a replacement for Emre Can, who is yet to sign a contract extension with our club. He could leave Anfield at the end of the season as a free agent.

As per Corriere dello Sport, Napoli are close to signing Sampdoria midfield dynamo Lucas Torreira, leading to speculations that Jorginho could exit Maurizio Sarri’s men in summer.

But Jorginho’s representative, Joao Santos, has restated his client’s desire to stay at Naples. However, Santos did admit that the midfielder would be open to moving away if the club agreed to a deal for him.

“First of all I hope Jorginho gets called up to the national side,” Joao Santos told in an interview with Radio Crc.

“Then if Torreira does arrive, he will be in the reserves. I don’t know what Napoli’s strategy is. But if any club wants to sign Jorginho and Napoli agree, we can evaluate the offer. But Jorginho is not looking for a new club because he wants to stay at Napoli.”

“He has two years left on his contract and isn’t looking for anything more. Renewal? The end of the season might be a good time for that.”

It remains to be seen what happens in the summer but Jorginho looks likely to stay put at Napoli, who have seen their title challenge get a blow in recent weeks after managing just a point from games with AS Roma and Inter Milan.
