Liverpool battle Arsenal to sign €100m-rated Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak

Liverpool are expected to set their standards high in the pursuit of a new goalkeeper by joining Arsenal in hunt of Atletico Madrid star Jan Oblak, according to the Daily Mirror.

Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius have blown hot and cold this season and although the latter has dished out some impressive performances lately, the Reds remain in the hunt to sign a new shot-stopper at the end of the season.

The Daily Mirror claim both Liverpool and Arsenal desperately need a new no.1 ahead of the next campaign and are targeting Oblak from Atletico Madrid.

The Slovenian has been in scintillating form for Atletico this season and his consistent displays between the sticks have made him one of the top goalkeepers in the continent. Oblak’s shot-stopping and reflexes are second to nothing, which would make him an upgrade to Karius and Mignolet at Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp broke the world record fee for a defender by signing Virgil van Dijk for £75m in January from Southampton and the Daily Mirror claim the Liverpool gaffer may have to break the bank again to sign Oblak from Atletico.

Spanish paper AS report that Oblak has a buyout clause of €100m and any club interested in signing him would have to cough up that much money to lure him away from Wanda Metropolitano.

AS suggest it’s a battle between Liverpool and Arsenal for Oblak this summer, though the Gunners seem to be stepping up their interest at this moment in order to seal the deal once the window reopens.

In my opinion, if Klopp forked out for Virgil van Dijk in January, then he should not think twice about spending a colossal amount on Oblak- one of the top goalkeepers in Europe.
