In what could be one of the craziest rumours swirling from Spain, reports suggest that Jurgen Klopp is ready to splash the cash for Real Madrid’s often criticised striker Karim Benzema.

A report from Diario Gol (h/t the Express) claims that the 30-year-old Frenchman is surplus to requirements at the La Liga side and Zinedine Zidane would be ready to offload the former Lyon star, with Liverpool having already made an approach.

Benzema has not had the best of seasons with Los Galacticos and has only scored 7 goals in all competitions. The 30-year-old has been linked with a move away from Madrid for a while and it seems like the club is ready to shake things up after a rather poor season domestically.

The La Liga giants have no real way to catch Barcelona for the Spanish league title and the only hope for the whites is to win the Champions League, which would be an incredible feat.

Benzema was, at one point, one of the best strikers in the world but his performances have waned over the years and it should come as no surprise that the 30-year-old is one of the few players that Zidane is reportedly ready to offload.

Surplus To Requirements But Is He The Right Man For Liverpool?

Liverpool have just one quality striker in their team and that is Roberto Firmino. The Brazilian has had one of his best seasons ever and even got on the score sheet against Watford but the Reds don’t have anyone who can score when Firmino needs a rest.

Danny Ings has received some game time recently and he could be the perfect player to replace Firmino given how much the Englishman runs.

Benzema would not be a cheap signing if Liverpool and Klopp are really interested. The Frenchman’s experience would be great for the young Reds but the problem would be his wages and well, his lack of goal scoring form.

Diario Gol doesn’t have the best record when it comes to transfers and this could be another hit or miss from the media outlet. It is best to take these rumours with a pinch of salt and we sign the right players to suit our requirements.
