As Liverpool fans, we have a lot of reasons to rejoice right now. Our team has been performing admirably in the Premier League and we are through to the semi-finals of the coveted Champions League tournament after almost a decade.

However, if you were looking for more reasons to smile, a report from Liverpool’s official website has revealed that Sadio Mane has been nominated for the Champions League Player Of The Week award after his prolific performance against a harried Manchester City side.

The report has also claimed that the Senegalese superstar will face competition from the likes of Edin Dzeko, Mario Mandzukic and Arjen Robben.

Although Liverpool had seemingly secured a ticket to the semi-final after thrashing City 3-0 in the first leg, the Reds launched a lethal attack to keep the Cityzens at bay in the second leg as well. We got through on an aggregate of 5-1 and Mane played a key role in helping us qualify.

Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah

He scored in the first leg and contributed to the attack significantly in the second leg as well. His movement and pace in the final third were absolutely phenomenal and the City defenders proved to be no match for his lightning-fast feet.

Mane has been an important figure for us throughout the season now. Barring all the talk about our defending, it has been delightful to view our attacking trio go from strength-to-strength. Mohamed Salah has received his due share of the credit as he should but Mane has been a huge pillar of strength for us.
