Liverpool face Roma in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final at Anfield on Tuesday and the excitement is palpable. We have come quite far in the elite European competition this season and full credit goes to our brilliant gaffer and the entire team.

Most of our players have been at their consistent best this season and of course, the PFA Player Of The Year Mohamed Salah has been absolutely exceptional.

After decimating Premier League champions Manchester City in the quarter-final stages, the Reds will now have to beat Roma to advance to the finals. Given the gravity of the situation, it will certainly not be an easy task.

After all, the Italian giants pulled off a shock victory over La Liga champions Barcelona to get to this stage and they are more than capable of causing a nasty upset. Klopp seemed to be of the same opinion at the pre-match press conference (quoted by The Independent).

When asked about his thoughts on the fixture, Klopp said,

“No. I watch quite a lot of Italian football. It is always very interesting. I was surprised that after the first result that they could have the comeback against Barcelona because it is rare but I was not surprised.

“They have a full squad available, that’s good and all of them are good. They have lots of options. It all looks settled, it all looks settled.
“You will see the excitement of both teams in a positive way and that is a good thing.”
He was also quizzed about this tie being the “underdog” tie since a good majority of the footballing community expected Barcelona and Manchester City to progress to this stage. However, in typical Klopp style, the German shrugged it off and said that both Roma and Liverpool deserved to be where they are.

Klopp went on to receive a question which has been playing on all our minds and that is whether or not we can reach the final.

“I don’t like to talk about that. Of course it would be special for Liverpool,” answered the Liverpool manager.

“We have to talk about the game against Rome and not what it would mean if we go through. We have to deserve that,” concluded Klopp.
Shrewd and classy, Klopp is always known for holding his cards close to his chest but with every passing day, the excitement is building up and it will be interesting to see how we fare against Roma.
