The prolific French striker has been a force to reckon with over the last couple of seasons. He shot to fame during Euro 2016 and has played a key role for Diego Simeone’s squad since then.
A player like him could become a valuable asset to a lot of teams and Daily Express has credited Liverpool with an interest.
However, if Balague is to be believed, Barcelona are in pole position to sign Griezmann this summer. During a Sky Sports Q&A session, Balague was asked if Liverpool have any chances of signing Griezmann and he said,
“No – no chance. I am hearing that Griezmann has rejected a renewal offer from Atletico Madrid. Let’s see if they put another one on the table, but as things stand Barca are in pole position to sign him.”
Barcelona have reclaimed the La Liga trophy from Real Madrid this term but they failed to make an impact in the Champions League. Thus, it is understandable that Barcelona are looking to sign Griezmann.
To miss out on a player like Griezmann would certainly be a loss for us. Although we are not in dire need of signing him, one cannot deny that he would have been an incredible addition to our strong attack. We lack depth in our attacking unit and that is something Jurgen Klopp needs to address in the upcoming summer transfer window.
To even think of Griezmann playing alongside the likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah is quite enticing but I’d be happy with our current front trio on any given day.
