Jurgen Klopp is looking to add more depth to the Liverpool squad in the summer and the Independent claims that the German has targeted Jamaal Lascelles and James Tarkowski as central defenders for the Reds.

The report also claims that Klopp would be looking to sign a goalkeeper and an attacker, with Jack Butland of Stoke City being a prime goalkeeping target. However, central defence is the most important position to bolster.

Tarkowski had an excellent season for Burnley as the club finished 7th in the league while Lascelles did his bit in keeping Newcastle United away from the drop, helping the club finish 10th in the table.

Klopp believes that either player would be able to do the job at Anfield and will make a plan to move for one of them in the summer window.

This does not mean that Dejan Lovren or any other defender at Liverpool would be going out. The move is to bolster the defence for next season as we have to deal with the Champions League and the Premier League challenge.

Jamaal Lascelles

This season, it has been a little difficult for the club to keep their players fresh and we have suffered from a mini injury crisis in recent weeks, with the likes of Joe Gomez, Emre Can, Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all missing major chunks of the season with issues.

Klopp certainly did bring in a world-class defender in Virgil van Dijk in the winter window and the Dutchman has certainly helped us do well at the back. However, we really could do with some more central defenders coming in during the summer.

We face Real Madrid in the Champions League final on 26 May and the club will be looking to repeat the performance from the 2005 final where we defeated AC Milan.

Winning the Champions League would be the perfect end to the season and it would also set us up for a real go in the Premier League next season.
