As per a report by Spanish outlet El Gol Digital, Liverpool have received a boost in their pursuit of Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak. The report claims that the La Liga giants are eyeing a move for Athletic Bilbao shot-stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga as they are confident Liverpool will pay Oblak’s eye-watering release clause of €100million.
It goes without saying that we are in dire need of a new goalkeeper this summer and Oblak has been one of our prime targets ever since the summer window commenced.
Oblak is one of the most talented keepers across Europe. His performances have helped Atletico succeed on numerous occasions and lightning-fast reflexes could go a long way in bringing some sort of stability for us at the back.
We effectively gifted the Champions League trophy to Real Madrid owing to two blunders from Loris Karius and considering how strong our team is looking, it would be criminal to not sign a keeper like Oblak to guard the goal.
Next season, it will be crucial for us to learn from our mistakes and make a solid title challenge. To do so, we will need Oblak and if Liverpool are truly willing to shell out €100million, it would be a massive statement of intent.
If Atletico are indeed looking at Arrizabalaga for a potential transfer, it is safe to assume that Oblak could be headed out of Wanda Metropolitano. If that is the case, Liverpool must do everything to acquire his signature.
