Liverpool have been made the favourites to sign James Tarkowski from Burnley, according to a report from the Daily Star.

Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead told Starsport:

“Tarkowski didn’t make the England squad in the end but did have a superb season, winning his first cap and proving instrumental at the back as Burnley qualified for Europe.

“It’s no surprise to see him being linked with a move and it looks as though Liverpool is the likely destination.”

Burnley did have a wonderful season under Sean Dyche as the side finished 7th in the league and qualified for the Europa League too. Tarkowski played 31 times for the Clarets and the 25-year-old is also being chased by a number of other Premier League sides.

Liverpool are 5-2 favourites to sign the English centre-back while the London clubs is second favourites to sign the Burnley man. West Ham United, Tottenham and Chelsea are all priced at 8-1 while Everton are also interested in the defender.

Tarkowski might not be one of the big name defenders that we might have been linked with in the past but the Burnley player did do a great job in helping his side finish in the top-seven.

While the 25-year-old might not be a sure shot starter for our side, there is no doubt we need cover for the centre-backs and if he performs well, he could become our next Andy Robertson.

The Scot was signed from Hull city on the cheap at the start of last season and slowly became one of the best left-backs in the country.

Tarkowski too should not cost a crazy amount of money and if we can get him to Anfield, he would be a decent player to have for the upcoming campaign.
