Jasper Cillessen

Liverpool could discover if Jasper Cillessen’s future lies away from Barcelona, as meetings will be held next week at the Catalan club, according to Sport (h/t The Express).

The Reds have been in the market for a keeper since the Champions League final debacle and Dutch keeper Cillessen has been one player who has been linked with a move to Anfield.

The 29-year-old is second in line to Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Barcelona are not keen on losing the Dutch keeper. However, the Catalan giants will not block a move for Cillessen if he wants to make a switch.

Barcelona will listen to offers of around £27m for the 29-year-old, which is way lower than the £53m release clause the Dutch keeper had in his contract with Barcelona.

We are not the only club looking to sign Cillessen as the report claims that Chelsea might be looking for a replacement for Thibaut Courtois next season.

While Cillessen is a decent goalkeeper and was one of the stars in the 2014 World Cup, he is not someone who has played regularly.

The Dutch keeper has only played 21 games in two seasons for Barcelona and making him the No.1 at Liverpool might be a risk given his lack of playing time. Even if the price for the 29-year-old is not too high, he is not a keeper for the future.

We should get someone who is younger and it does seem this is one position where we will have to be careful about who we bring in, given that Loris Karius hasn’t really done all that well since joining us.
