Liverpool have begun negotiations to bring Stoke City attacker Xherdan Shaqiri, to Anfield according to the Telegraph.
The Swiss star had stated that he would be returning to the Premier League next season after Stoke were relegated in the previous campaign and we have been linked with a move for the 26-year-old.
The report claims that Jurgen Klopp is ready to pull the trigger on Shaqiri’s release clause of £13million this month. While many had stated that the release clause of the Swiss superstar was £12million, it is now believed to be more than that value.
The 26-year-old was one of the better players for Switzerland in their World Cup, scoring a goal and providing an assist. However, he could not stop his side from getting knocked out by Sweden.
Getting Shaqiri on the cheap could turn out to be one of the bargains of the summer as the 26-year-old would certainly add depth to our squad.
The former Inter Milan and Bayern Munich attacker can be played out wide or as a central attacking midfielder, giving us a number of avenues to use his abilities this season.
Shaqiri was signed by Stoke for a paltry fee of £12m in 2015 but we do need more attacking options next season and the Swiss star fits the bill when it comes to an FSG signing.
While we have spent big bucks on Virgil van Dijk, Naby Keita and Fabinho in recent months, Shaqiri is quality, young and is available on the cheap, so signing the Swiss star is a no-brainer.
