Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has stated that the club could still do business with Liverpool, with Nabil Fekir joining the Reds.

The French forward almost joined us before the start of the World Cup but a last-minute snag during the medical broke down the deal, which saw Fekir stay at Lyon.

While the France team has won the World Cup, Aulas was quoted by Le 10 Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo) as saying:

“It seems to me that Liverpool could come back in. That’s what I’ve read in the press, but I’ve not been told anything. “

The president also added that Fekir has not been affected by the failed transfer and his heart is still set on Lyon. Aulas said that Fekir could move to any other club but it would be great if they could keep the French forward.

“Nabil is much closer to Lyon today than he was when we talked to Liverpool.

“Maybe he will go to Liverpool, or another club, but if he stays at Lyon, it will be a great year for him and for us.”

Aulas is known to be a tough cookie to crack and this just means that it would be difficult to lure the Lyon man to Anfield this summer. We signed Xherdan Shaqiri recently but getting Fekir would certainly be a coup given how talented he is.

Lyon and Liverpool could be looking to do business once again in the summer now that the World Cup is done and even if we end up paying a little extra than what we were initially wanting to, Fekir would be a great buy.
